NATURAL BIODEGRADABLE COMPONENTS AND PRESERVATION OF LIVING ORGANISMS

The products used do not present any risk to the operator or to the surrounding fauna. During the gemmage process, the trunk of the tree is not damaged, so the quality of the wood intended for cutting is not altered.

SOURCING LOCAL DES COMPOSANTS ET TRAÇABILITÉ

Producers and harvesters are located within a radius of less than 100km from the place where Galipot varnish is produced. Gemmage enables forest owners to generate additional income from their plots.

COMPONENTS

Galipot resin: Galipot is a gemmage term used to describe the resin precipitate (gem) on the trunk of a pine tree. Contained in its resin canals, this gem is secreted by the tree in reaction to external aggressions, such as wounds or insect attacks.
Pinus Pinaster, or maritime pine, was chosen because of the particular and superior qualities of its resin, which is free of the highly allergenic molecule Delta-3-Carene.
The resin is harvested in a closed vase to obtain a pure, fluid resin. Before distillation, it is 70% rosin and 30% turpentine.

Oil: The blend of linseed oil and walnut oil ensures suppleness, shine and durability. These organic oils have been washed, filtered, decanted and clarified in the sun for several months to optimise their natural properties and avoid adding metallic salts that are harmful to the operator and the environment.

Solvents: Odourless mineral spirits and isopropanol are used as neutral solvents that leave no residue, and their evaporation is much less harmful to the body and the environment than turpentine and petroleum spirits.
Organic lavender essential oil adds viscosity to the varnish and extends application time.

Drying agents: No toxic siccatives have been used; the drying time is 12h when touched and 24h when polished, which can be reduced depending on the dilution. Users can add their own siccatives to speed up drying. The ratios have been determined at 1/3 oil to 2/3 resin. This allows the user to add a small quantity of drying oil at will.

GALIPOT oil varnishes are naturally viscous, making them ideal for users who apply with brushes or by hand. They can also be diluted to suit individual needs.
